Helga is Lithuanian-born visual artist interested in physical abstraction and themes of material representation. Her practice is currently based between Hamilton, Canada and Vilnius, Lithuania. She primarily works in process-focused sculptural objects, oscillating between art and architecture.
Materials in architecture and design are often used in regular and expected ways, tending to produce regular and expected results. In searching for new ways of making, Helga explores this tension of anticipated constancy by transporting methods and techniques into new and unexpected contexts. By using materials in this way, Helga is able to explore the relationship between our perception and the natural and built environment.
