Bronze in a Sweater
Casted Shadow
2023/ BronzeWith its appearance between mineral and earthenware, Casted Shadow explores the intersection of medium and process at the object scale.
Casted Shadow’s familiar, yet otherworldly shape and irregular contours reminiscent of molten rock found in craters and caves calls attention to the preservation and destruction inherent in the sculptural process.
Through negative hand-carving and traditional direct casting, the original material used to form it are stripped away and vanish, leaving behind only a material shadow of the original. As such, Casted Shadow subverts the idea of a sculpture already complete within the material waiting to be discovered and invites contemplation of its process.
Caught in Tangles
2023/ Bronze, Yarn By blending what is perceived as high and low craft,
Caught in Tangles refuses to take itself too seriously.
While the main sculptural form is cast in solid bronze, which involves a physically demanding process and material commitment, the colourful yarn enclosing the piece speaks of the intimate nature of the domestic craft of knitting that often is low-stakes and messy.
